All About the Shoe: A primer on SHOE TERMINOLOGY.
Last: The shape of the shoe.
Toe box: the part of the shoe where your toes can wiggle or are scrunched.
Drop: The difference the heel height and the ball of the foot height.
Heel cup: the shape of the shoe around your heel.
Rand: The shoe rand is defined as a strip under the back of a shoe to make it level.
Arch: As part of the midsole/insole that is intended to support the arch of the foot.
Insole: The padding between foot and sole.
Midsole: This cushioning layer over the shank but under the tread.
Shank: A piece of plastic inside the sole that determines rigidity and flexibility of the sole.
(Out)Sole: The underside of the shoe that makes contact with the ground.
Tread: The sticky out bits on the sole.
